Thoughts

Watch the sunrise
Say your goodbyes
Off we go
Some conversation
No contemplation
Hit the road

Unlike Michael Jordan, LeBron James has decided to speak out on behalf of Trayvon Martin, the Florida teen gunned down by overzealous vigilante, George Zimmerman, in a gated community of Sanford, Florida. Martin has been all over the news because the Sanford police, as of this writing, haven’t filed any charges against Zimmerman.
Trayvon was gunned down during halftime of the NBA All-Star game. You’ve probably read some accounts of awful story, but I here’s Ta-Nehisi Coates’ coverage for the Atlantic, if you want further reading about why it’s caused such an uproar.
James took to twitter today, where he and a group of Heat players (including Dwyane Wade) wore hoodies in support of Martin and his family and included the hashtags #WeAreTrayvonMartin #Hoodies #Stereotyped #WeWantJustice. Martin, who is African-American, had been wearing a hoodie at the time he was murdered by Zimmerman. A player of James’ stature bringing more awareness to this story, is a breath of fresh air for  race relations in this country. It was a heartfelt show of unity with Trayvon’s family, and I couldn’t be happier about it.
